October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, in collaboration with the Domestic Violence Awareness Project Advisory Group, has compiled a calendar of national awareness initiatives during October to help plan domestic violence awareness month activities. For the calendar, see http://dvam.vawnet.org. For the NRCDV Resource/Product Catalog, see www.nrcdv.org. The FaithTrust Institute has issued a National Declaration by Religious and Spiritual Leaders to Address Violence Against Women. For information, see www.faithtrustinstitute.org/declaration. Also, ask for their 2006 Resource Catalog. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence Remember My Name Project is collecting submissions to create a national registry of names of women who have been killed by an intimate partner. For a copy of the submission form, see www.ncadv.org/programs/RememberMyNameProject_119.html. NCADV also has public awareness products available at reasonable prices. The Women of Color Network is a place where Women of Color in grassroots and mainstream programs can connect across geographic, social, political and professional boundaries. Sacred Circle's top priority is the development of Native shelters and advocacy programs, along with increasing community awareness and grassroots support to end violence against Native women. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE), a Project of the Texas Council on Family Violence, has public awareness items available (in English and Spanish), while supplies last, at no charge. The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs has annual reports on domestic violence within and against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, now available on CD-ROM. See www.ncavp.org. The National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL) has resource materials available relevant to older victims of domestic violence. See www.ncall.us or www.wcadv.org. The National Network to End Domestic Violence "BE AWARE" bracelet collection raises awareness about domestic violence, and 20% of the proceeds from bracelet sales support NNEDV's work to end Domestic Violence. For information on the bracelets and other NNEDV initiatives, see www.nnedv.org. In 2003, the U.S. Postal Service issued a "Stop Family Violence" stamp at a cost of $.45 per stamp. As a semipostal, it is valid for postage at the First-Class first-ounce letter rate of $.39. The additional (tax-deductible amount) is then transferred to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support the national fight against domestic violence. The Stop Family Violence semipostal stamp can be purchased at www.USPS.com/shop, by toll-free phone order at 1-800-STAMP-24, or at Post Offices nationwide.
